The daughter of Paul DeWitt and Norma DeWitt, Joyce DeWitt was born on 23 April 1949 in Wheeling, West Virginia. She grew up together with other three siblings in Speedway, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. She holds American nationality and has a mixed ethnicity of Irish, Italian and Swedish.

Furthermore, American actress Joyce DeWitt graduated from Speedway Senior High School and joined Ball State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in theater. In 1974, she received a master’s degree from the University of California.

At the age of 13, she started appearing on the stage of the entertainment industry. She portrayed the character of Mother Earth in the 1975 television series Baretta and Cindy in Most Wanted.
