Anna Cropper was born on13 May 1938 in Brierfield, Lancashire, England. Cropper holds an English nationality and belongs to white ethnicity. She was a daughter of Margaret Cropper, a stage actress and director and Jack Cropper, a dentist.

As a child, Anna lived on Todmorden Road in Burnley. She enrolled her study in acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Cropper made her acting debut as Chrysalis in The Insect Play. Then she portrayed her role in Emergency Ward 10 three times and on Coronation Street three times in 1962. She rose to fame after portraying a young schizophrenic in the television play In Two Minds. She is also credited for films like All Neat in Black Stockings, Cromwell, Nanou.

In 1978, Anna starred the role of Mary Hodgson, the nurse of the boys who inspired the creation of Peter Pan in the BBC drama The Lost Boys. Her other television credits include Anna of the Five Towns, The Jewel in the Crown, The Lost Boys, Schmoedipus and The Exorcism.
