Weathers attended St. Augustine High School and later joined San Francisco State University. From there, he graduated with a BA in Drama in 1966.

Carl Weathers started his career as a professional footballer. He used to play as a defensive end with Long Beach City College and later transferred to San Diego State University. Weathers started his acting career in 1975 by playing a minor role in his friend, Arthur Marks‘ film ‘Bucktown‘.
