Dave Hester was born on 23rd July 1964, at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base near Oceanside, California. His father was of Irish and German descent, whereas his mother was a Mexican. Dave’s father, who served in the military, was also an auctioneer. He has a brother.

Following his father, Dave attracted towards auctions instead of pursuing studies. However, unlike his father, he is much interested in the business and making a profit. Thus, his enthusiasm for the business and attention to details ended up earning him so much income.

At his 14, Dave started buying machinery and tools from auctions and then selling those items to military-base shops in Orange County, California. In 1986, he attended his first storage auction. By 1992, he became a licensed and bonded auctioneer.

Furthermore, he set up two stores the Rags to Riches thrift store and Newport Consignment Gallery, in Coast Mesa, California. Along with that, he also hired about 15 employees to sell the valuable items he bought from auctions.

In 2010, Dave was named as one of the lead casts of the A&E Network reality TV series Storage Wars. Though the first season of the show had a slow start, the second season promptly gained momentum and became the most watched program in the history of the A&E Network.
