David Murphy’s Early Life
The professional baseballer was born on October 18, 1981, in Houston, Texas. Murphy’s parents Alex Murphy and Clara Murphy named him David Matthew Murphy. Although he was born in Houston, Murphy spent his childhood in Spring, Texas. In addition to that, Murphy attended Klein High School where he played baseball with another MLB player Josh Barfield.
After his high school, David went to Baylor University for his college studies. He chose Baylor over the University of Texas, Rice University and Texas A&M University. Besides his interest in baseball, Murphy also plays hockey and likes the baseball group Red Wings.

David Murphy’s Career
Murphy started playing baseball ever since he was a teenager in high school. At Klein High School, Murphy led the team to a state title as a pitcher and outfielder in 1988. David earned All-State honors and was an honorable mention to USA Today High School All-America.
During his senior year in high school, David became a member of the National Honor Society. Murphy also hit 12 home runs and 46 runs batted in (RBI). After that, during freshman year in his college, Murphy was the starting right fielder for the Bears. In addition to that, when Murphy reached sophomore year, he hit six home runs and eleven home runs in his junior year.
After that, Murphy played for Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was named co-MVP of the team. With that in mind, David played for the Single-A Lowell Spinners, Single-A Portland Sea Dogs and Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox Organization. Overall, Murphy played in minor leagues till 2006.
In 2006, David played 42 games for the Sea Dogs before they promoted him. Additionally, Murphy made his MLB debut on September 2, 2006. David hit his first home run against pitcher Jaret Wright in 2006.
Similarly, Murphy also started the 2007 season in the minor leagues. During his time of major leagues with the Red Sox, Murphy played 3 games. In 2007, Murphy traded to the Texas Rangers in place of pitcher Eric Gagne. Murphy played 46 games with the Rangers and Boston Red Sox. Murphy played continuously till 2013. However, Murphy signed a contract with Cleveland Indians in 2013.
After that, Murphy joined the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for minor league shortstop Eric Stamets. In 2016, Murphy returned back to the Red Sox and also signed to a minor league deal with Minnesota Twins.
