A native of Waxahachie, Texas, Emanuel Cleaver was born on October 26, 1944, to Marie (née McKnight) and Lucky G. Cleaver. His star sign is Scorpio. As per nationality, he is an American and belongs to the Afro-American ethnic background.

He graduated from Prairie View A&M University where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

In 1979, Cleaver began serving as Kansas City Councilman. In 1991, he was elected the Mayor of Kansas City, becoming the first African-American Mayor of Kansas City. During his spell as Mayor, Reverend Cleaver agreed to an international visit to London, England.

In 2004, he was elected to represent Missouri’s 5th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Furthermore, he is a member of the Democratic Party, and in January 2010, he became chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, a position he held until 2019.
