Monica Pearson was born on October 20, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky to her mother, Hattie Wallace Jones Edmondson and her late father, Maurice Jones. She attended Catholic schools during her high school. She was so much fascinated by the communication field since her tender age.
Later on, Pearson joined her part-time jobs in high school as a host for her black-owned radio station. She also used to sing country music on a television show called Hayloft Hoedown. After she obtained her B.S. degree in English from the University of Louisville.
She then became involved in the Summer Program for Minority Groups at Columbia Universiy, New York. Later, she started anchoring for WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky. She also worked as a reporter for Louisville Times.

Monica rose to fame after joining WSB-TV channel 2 where she worked as the first African American and the first female anchor in the daily evening newscast at WSB-TV in Atlanta in 1975.
