Life Before Fame

John Randolph Thune was born on January 7, 1961, in Pierre, South Dakota. He was born to his mother, Yvonne Patricia, and father, Harold Richard Thune. John’s grandfather, Nicholas Thune was an immigrant from Norway and had moved to the US to start a hardware store in South Dakota. He grew up alongside his brother, Richard Thune who works as an English teacher at Rowland High School.

The Senator of South Dakota attended Jones County High School and played basketball, track and football during school days. Later, he graduated from Biola University with a degree in bachelor in arts in 1983. In addition, he attended the University of Dakota and graduated with a degree Masters in business administration.

Married Kimberly Weems

John Thune married Kimberly Weems, a native of Donald, South Dakota. Before marriage, Kimberly worked as a legislative aide on capitol hill during the 1980s. Later, she worked in Healthcare For Several Years and remained active in her husband’s campaigns.

Nevertheless, the couple met during their college days. His wife immediately fell in love with John because of his tall height and dashing personality.

Since they shared the same root, it became quite easy for them when it comes to knowing each other. John was an eligible bachelor when he met Kimberly. They met each other through a mutual friend during their college days.

Ultimately, they dated for a couple of months before tying the wedding knot in 1984 in a private ceremony. As per their wedding photo shared by John in his Twitter account, the couple wore a matching white wedding costume. Kimberly is seen carrying a bouquet of red roses on her wedding photo. As of now, they live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Two Daughters

John and Kimberly share two daughters from their 36 years of marriage. Their eldest daughter, Britanny Thune Lundberg lives in Washington DC and works as the Vice president of development for the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers. She majored in business at Belmont University in Nashville. She ran track and cross country in college.

John’s younger daughter, Larissa Thune Hargens works in marketing at the University of Sioux Falls. She graduated from Bethel University in Minnesota in 2012 where she majored in history and political science.

Grandparents of Three

John Thune is one lucky person when it comes to family. He was a proud dad of two beautiful daughters before becoming grandparents of his grandchildren. His youngest daughter, Larissa gave birth to her first child, a son, Henley Joy Hargens. A few months later, his eldest daughter, Brittany gave birth to her first child, John Mark Lindberg in April 2017.

In addition, John became a grandfather of three when his daughter, Larissa welcomed their second child, Hewitt Thune Hargens on December 29, 2017. As of now, the senator visits his grandchildren whenever he is free from his works. His Instagram account is filled with pictures of his granddaughters.
