From 1995 to 1996, Kobach was a clerk at the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Lawrence, Kansas, for Judge Deanell R. Tacha. Shortly thereafter, he started his professorship at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). In 2001, he was given a White House Fellowship by President George W. Bush to Attorney General John Ashcroft.
