After dating for a year, the couple announced their engagement. Later, they married on 20th April 1963 in a Catholic ceremony at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Los Angeles.

Six months after the wedding, Kristin and Ricky had their first daughter, Tracy Nelson (born on 25th October 1963). Tracy weighed four pounds, one ounce, and was slightly premature. Later, they also had twin sons, Gunnar Eric and Matthew Gray Nelson (born on 20th September 1967). Shortly after their father’s death, the twins formed a band, Nelson, considering her father and is still running together.
