Leila Janah

Leila Janah was an American Businesswoman known for being the founder and CEO of Samasource and LXMI. Moreover, the two of her company share a common goal: to end global poverty by providing jobs to the people. Because of her good work, she has achieved numerous awards and honors in her life.

Leila Janah Before Fame

Leila Janah was born on October 9, 1982, in Lewiston, New York, nearby Niagara Falls. But her parents moved to San Pedro, Los Angeles, California, where she spent most of her childhood while growing up. Leila hasn’t shared her parents’ names, but she was the daughter of an Indian Immigrants parents who came to the United States.

In one interview, Leila described that her childhood was difficult due to a lack of financial problems. And when she reached her teenager, she started working in many jobs like Tutoring and Babysitting. Moreover, Leila went to the California Academy of Mathematics and Science for her education. After graduation, she enrolled at Harvard University, earning a degree in African Development Studies.

Leila’s journey to success

After she graduated from Harvard, she began working as a management consultant with Katzenbach Partners. Before that, she left Katzenbach Partners in 2007 to visit a scholar at Standford University with the program on Global Justice. In addition, after getting inspired by the program, she launched Samasource in 2008.

After establishing Samasource, she raised a $14.8 million series of funding which now hires people from East Africa and India. Similarly, in 2015 she founded LXMI, an ethical fair-trade company producing organic skincare.

Married Life

As mentioned above, Leila Janah was married and a mother of one child. She was married to Tassio Festetics, currently serving as a vice president at a global solution. However, they haven’t revealed their marriage date yet, but the couple shares a beautiful daughter from their marriage.

Leila was once diagnosed with one of the types of rare cancer. She was suffering from Epitheloid Sarcoma. However, in an interview, she mentioned that her husband and daughter supported her during her hard time. Also, she added they were one of the reasons she survived for a long time.

Death of Leila Janah

The couple was living a happy life and maintaining their lifestyle. But one day, a tragedy occurred in their life when Leila got diagnosed with Epitheloid Sarcoma. Epitheloid Sarcoma is a rare disease that is a slow-growing type of soft tissue cancer. It can be treatable in some ways, but it was too late when Leila knew she had cancer.

But when she found she was suffering from Epithelioid Sarcoma, she shared the news on her social media account to inform her fans. On January 24, 2020, at age 37, she died from the disease. Many of her fans and followers were shocked after they heard the news. The world suffered from a heartbreaking tragedy as soon as she passed away. Many news stations covered her tragic story during that time, and it became the headlines overnight.

Net Worth

Janah always tried to help others, and she had successfully helped many people get a job from her company. According to networthbuzz.com, Leila had grabbed a whopping net worth of $10 million from her profession. After launching Samasource, she also raised a $14.8 million series of funds.

In 2022, the current year, Leila’s Samasource company made $15 million in revenue. Also, three thousand workers were paid around $3 million by the company.

Moreover, the company also increased payment for freelancers from $2.50 a day to more than $8 per day. And also, she won the whopping amount of $14,000 price money while she took part in a business plan competition. In addition,  Leila was chosen to participate in the fbFund contest, which was worth $13 million to support developers and entrepreneurs.
