Lydia Ko was born as Bo-Gyung ”Lydia” Ko on April 24, 1997, in Seoul, South Korea. She was born to Korean parents, golf fanatics father Ko Gil-Hong and mother Hyeon Bong-sook, who moved to New Zealand when she was four years old. Her interest in golf grew by the time she reached age five after her golfer aunt introduced her to the sport. At eight, she started competing and winning in the North Island women’s championship at under-19 division junior golf tournaments.

Ultimately Lydia started getting noticed due to her playing ability. In 2011, at age 13, Ko became the first golfer to pull off the Aussie-Kiwi stroke play double, winning both the Australian Women’s Stroke Play and New Zealand Women’s Stroke Play titles.

Apart from playing golf, she pursued her studies and attended Mairangi bay primary. Later she enrolled in Pinehurst school in Albany, New Zealand. She joined a professional golf tour during school and took correspondence classes with Pinehurst.

Ko is already a star but does not want to get the hype now and wants to focus on her studies. Ko wanted to study at Stanford, a top golfing University reviewed by her idol Tiger Woods.
