Neil began his broadcasting career from KCST-FM in Florence on the central Oregon Coast, west of Eugene. However, he later left the job and moved to Hawaii where he served fifteen years as an athletic administrator at Hawaii Pacific University.

While working at HPU, he got an opportunity to work at local ABC affiliate KITV, as a news writer, then got appointed as editor and subsequently, he became a sports anchor. Later, he worked at Hawaii station KHNL and KGMB.
