Alex made his first film Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds an independent science fiction thriller in 1988. In 1994, he released his film The Crow. During the shooting of the film, the main actor Brandon Lee died in an accident and Alex and his producers decided to complete the film by using Stunt double and special effects. Luckily, the movie was a huge success at the box office.

Alex went on to make other movies like Knowing, Gods of Egypt, I Robot and Dark City. Proyas worked with Nicolas Cage in the science fiction thriller. And for his movie Gods of Egypt, the movie won the worst film category and Alex the worst director category.
