In many conducts, you can forgive a child actor for developing an air of precociousness after a spell of success. No forgiveness required for Alex R. Hibbert, the 14-year-old who portrayed the young version of the protagonist, Chiron, in 2016 movie Moonlight.

For a debut, his performance is nothing less than flabbergasting, and it’s clear this young talent comes with no arrogance an actor his age may have acquired after six months of receiving praise for appearing in such an acclaimed movie.

Early Life of Alex R. Hibbert

New York native Alex R. Hibbert was born on 4^th July 2004. He was raised in Queens by his parents: mother, Donna Wellington, and father. Also, he has a sister named, Robin, from his father. At the age of seven, Hibbert moved to Miami, Florida.

Furthermore, he attended a drama program in school when his teacher told all the boys of the class to go in for the audition for Moonlight. Upon his selection in the audition, he started working hard to give best out of best.

In the first third of the movie, Hibbert portrayed as a 12-year-old the lead character Chiron in Moonlight by Barry Jenkins. Uncommon in a kid his age, however, he wanted to use the opportunity that Moonlight provided him to help his mother as well as put some of his fortunes towards cancer research.

Not only limited up to acting, but Hibbert also worked as a model for Calvin Klein’s men’s underwear Spring 2017 collection. As of 2018, he stepped in TV series too, appearing in the series The Chi where he played in the pilot episode. Moreover, he also made a small guest appearance in the Marvel film, Black Panther.

Awards

In December 2016, Hibbert took home the first award, Critics Choice Movie Award as part of the Best Acting Ensemble in the movie Moonlight. Also, he was nominated for Best Young Actor. Furthermore, he also earned Gotham Independent Film Award with the Special Jury Prize and Independent Spirit Award as a part of the ensemble for the same movie, Moonlight.

In 2017, he was nominated for Young Artis Award for Best Supporting Actor in a feature in the category Teen Actor, again for his role in movie MoonLight.
