Anna Gunn was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 11, 1968, to mother Sharon Anna Kathryn Gunn and father Clemens Earl Gunn Jr. Her mother is an interior designer whereas her dad worked in a real estate business.

She is the only child in Gunn’s family. Her parents moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico at an early age where she was raised in the Christian faith. Anna attended Santa Fe Preparatory high school. Later, she studied theater at Northwestern University based in Evanston, Illinois. She completed her degree in theater in the Illinois based university.

Anna was married to Alastair for 19 years before parting their ways in 2009.
