Wilson was raised by her father, Paul O. Wilson, a political strategist and consultant and her mother, Kathy Higdon, a woman’s rights advocate. Unfortunately, her mother died of heart failure at the age of 54 in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware on 1st September 2005. She grew up with her younger brother, Fletcher, a medical device engineer.
Wilson graduated from T. C. Williams High School in 1998. Later, she enrolled at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she studied theater. She also joined the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, where she became a recipient of NYU’s Excellence in Acting award in 2002.
