Since 2009, after signing to Universal Music, Dulce has recorded three solo albums: Sin Fronteras (2014), Extranjera (2010), and DM (2017). Maria has served in numerous music projects, most notably pop group RBD( 2004 to 2009) which arose from the famous telenovela Rebelde (2004–2006). Dulce marketed 20 million albums around the world for which Maria has earned multiple awards.
In 2016, Maria played as the first antagonist character debut in the telenovela Corazón queue miente. Dulce was seen in a short film Quimera.In 1999, Maria earned her first theatrical film appearance in the character of Lorena in drama flick, Inesperado amor.
