Edward Gibson started his career as a research assistant in the field of jet propulsion and classical physics in June 1964. Later, he became a senior research scientist with the Applied Research Laboratories of the Philco Corporation at Newport Beach, California.
In 1965, NASA selected Gibson as a scientist-astronaut. Since then, he completed his 53-week course in flight training at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. Further, Gibson got his Air Force wings and flown helicopters and the T-38. Similarly, on 16th November 1973, Gibson and his Skylab 4 crew launched their Skylab space station and concluded on 8th February 1974.
Gibson resigned from NASA in December 1974 but returned to preside over the selection of scientist-astronaut candidates in 1977. After six years, NASA gave him honor on his retirement day for the last time on October 1982.
