James Conner was born James Earl Conner on May 5, 1995, in Erie, Pennsylvania, USA. He is the son of Glen Conner Sr. and Kelly Patterson. James was the youngest of all five brothers: Glen Conner, Richard Conner, Michael Conner, and Rico Conner. What is more, Richard and Michael are his biological brothers, while Rico is his stepbrother from his mother’s second marriage.

James attended McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania.  He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh in August 2012.

James started his career as a fresh footballer at the University of Pittsburgh in 2013. He played as a Panthera footballer for four years and was named ACC Players of the year. Also, he was awarded AFCA first-team All-American honors at the end of 2014.

Furthermore, his professional career started in 2017 when he attended the NFL Scouting Combine on the third attempt round(105th overall).   Conner was picked as the eighth running back for Pittsburgh Steelers.
