The couple met each other for the first time when they were just seventeen-years-old. Stevie Nicks even named a song remembering the blissful moment, “Edge of Seventeen” after hearing the story of their first meeting. Jane after dating for seven long years decided to tie the knot with Petty.

Both of them lived in Gainesville, Florida, and after exchanging wedding vows in 1974 changed their lives forever. According to The Daily Mail, the singer never had the plan to marry his longtime girlfriend. But after the advice from his mother, Petty decided to do the right thing.

The couple was pronounced husband and wife in front of their family and friends in an intimate wedding ceremony. After the wedding, the pair moved to Hollywood to make Tom’s dream come true.

After twenty-two-years of marital relationship, in 1996, Petty and Benyo decided to end their relationship. In their relationship, the pair had their ups and downs but the exact reason for the divorce is not disclosed.

“I’m thrilled about her. She’s the most honest, frank person I’ve ever met… But there were times when we definitely were not getting along, when we fought like f***ing Apaches, you know”.
