Born as the daughter of an opera singer, Owen began writing songs as a teenager.

Owen contributed vocals and keyboards to Harry Shearer‘s 1994 album, It Must Have Been Something I Said. Two years later, in 1996 she debuted her solo album, Emotions on a Postcard, which was released on her own Dog on the Bed label.
Likewise, Owen released her second solo album, Limited Edition, in 2000. Furthermore, her songs “Get into It” and “Creatures of Habit” from the album were featured in the movie Olive Juice. Her third album, Twelve Arrows boasted guest appearances by Thompson and Fordham, and it highlighted Owen’s cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun”, which led her an opening slot on a k.d. lang tour.
