Callaway attended New Trier High School located in Winnetka, Illinois. Later, she graduated from New Trier with a degree in arts. Furthermore, Callaway and her sister performed in many theatrical plays and dramas. After working in many Broadway productions, she decided to pursue her career in acting in 1979.
