His father was an insurance salesman whereas his mother was an elementary school music teacher. Though he is born on Morristown, New Jersey perter was raised at Mendham Township, New Jersey, the US along with his older brother Jonathan with parents.

Similarly, he belongs to American nationality and holds mixed ethnicity of German, Irish, and English. As a child, Peter and his brother performed puppet musicals for people in their neighborhood.
