Spencer Kayden was born on January 30, 1971, in Costa Mesa, California, the United States of America. She holds an American nationality and belongs to white ethnicity. Her father served as a pop-up book publisher and her mother was a psychotherapist. Moreover, she grew up in Orange County, California. She has three brothers including film director Michael Almereyda.

She studied drama at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Kayden later joined the Chicago cast of Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind before moving to New York in 1993 to begin the New York run of the show.

Soon after completion of her studies, Spencer started her acting career. She gained massive fame after she performed in 2001 musical Urinetown. She appeared as Little Sally, the pig-tailed girl in the show. In 1999, she performed in New York International Fringe Festival production and then appeared in the original Off-Broadway and Broadway casts in 2001.

Similary, she starred as Mrs.Pepper in the famous Nickelodeon Kids series Blue’s Clues, featuring Traci Paige Johnson and Steve Burns. From November 2008 to January 2009, she appeared in the farce Don’t Dress for Dinner at the Royal George Theatre, Chicago, Illinois.
