Early Life and Education
A native of Turlock, California, Jone was born on 4th January 1964. She has made a name for herself both in the world of acting and sport, being a talented comedy actress and 15-time world arm wrestling champion. Raised in Hilmar, California, she first took part in strength competitions at a young age.
Jones became a champion weightlifter during her schooldays. Furthermore, she got involved in arm wrestling on a whim. At the age of 19, she took home her first arm wrestling world championship, which was followed by 14 more wins.
Next, Jones attended California State University, Fresno, where she recorded shot put. On the other hand, she also competed in powerlifting. But it was not all shiny in Jones’ athletic career. She suffered 11 knee injuries, and her height was brought down from 6 ft 4 inches to 6 ft 3 inches.
Dot Jones’ Career
Upon her graduation, Jones began to serve as a youth counsellor at the Fresno County Juvenile Probation centre, with no intentions of acting. It was the destiny that assisted Dot Marie’s discovery at a bodybuilding competition by Shirley Eson of American Gladiators fame.
Afterwards, she went on to give audition for the Gladiators-like Knights and Warriors. Eventually, she got the part, becoming one of the few female warriors. Though the show lasted only for a season, her acting career was taking off.
During the 1990s and 2000s Jones made her appearance in the minor roles, ultimately landing significant parts in feature films, the cult flicks The Boondock Saints. It was the first recurring role that she got in a TV series was a character named “Dot” on the favourite show Married… with Children.
As for her next break, it was Lizzie McGuire where Jones portrayed the role of Coach Kelly. Ever since, she has starred in popular shows including Prison Break, Desperate Housewives, and Nip/Tuck, among others.
Following her close encounter with Glee’s co-executive producer Brad Falchuk, the character of Coach Shannon Beiste was created for her. Moreover, her recent TV series role includes Butchy May in American Horror Story: Cult.
