Lisa Thomas-Laury was born on 19 July 1954, in the United States. Born to her American parents, Thomas is of White ethnicity and holds American nationality. After completing her primary and high school, Laury joined Marshall University.

Lisa Thomas- Laury’s Career

On 20 February 1978, Lisa started off her career as a noon co-anchor and reporter at WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. Later, in 1983, Thomas got promotion and began presenting the 5 p.m. newscast.

Lisa also did 6 and 11 p.m. newscast, substituting Jim Gardner when he could not join for anchoring. Moreover, Laury also presented in the monthly show, Fast Forward series, which is now hosted by Rick Williams. The show is about teenagers. Additionally, Thomas is one of the few African American women to present news in Philadelphia. Currently, the group includes her fellow anchors from WPVI, Shirleen Allicot, and Tamala Edwards.

Moreover, on 25th May 2016, Laury retired from her anchoring career. The following year, she wrote a memoir titled ‘On Camera and Off, When the News is Good and When it’s Not‘.

Laury is living a happy married life with her husband, William Laury. It’s been a long journey for the couple since their marriage, however, the exact date is still unknown. Thomas and William shares two sons together, Langston Laury (36 years), and Leland (33 years).

In 2002, Laury started facing health issues, as symptoms began to appear like tingling in her feet. However, she did not care much and thought because of her excessive power walking. After five years in 2005, Lisa received WPVI special report, confirming that Laury was suffering from POEMS Syndrome. She was admitted to Mayo Clinic for her right diagnosis asap.

The disease could cause hormonal imbalance, skin changes, organ enlargement, and nerve damage, which led Lisa to medical leave for a year.
