Michael Spierig was born on 29th April 1976 in Buchholz in der Nordheide, Germany. His parents are father John Spierig and mother Marianne Spierig. Spierig grew up along with his brother Peter Spierig. At the age of 4, Spierig and his family immigrated to Sydney, Australia and he spent his childhood in Australia.
Later, the family moved to Brisbane where Spierig attended Governor Livingston High School. The brothers lived in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Furthermore, Michael graduated from Queensland College of Art(QCA) with a major in Graphic designing.

Since the age of 10, Michael and his brother developed an interest in filmmaking after finding their dad’s camera. They shot videos at the young age blowing teddy bears with fireworks in their backyard. Their combined interest at a young age is what pushed them towards this field.
Following their passion, the brothers kept directing short films, many of which were even featured in local film festivals and film award ceremonies. Eventually, they caught the attention of director Dick Marks. Later, he hired the brothers to direct television commercials.
Moreover, Michael and Peter ended up joining directly over sixty television commercials for clients like Coke, Universal, Telstra, Energex, Myer and many more. Although they were shooting for commercials, they didn’t forget their roots. The Spierig brothers continued to write and direct short films.
As a matter of fact, their final short film The Big Picture screened and won awards at Rotterdam International Film Festival and other film festivals. Making over fifteen short films and dozens of television commercials, the brothers finally moved into feature film production in 2000.

The Spierig Brothers’ Film Career
After the Spierig Brothers saved enough, they filmed a low-budget zombie horror-comedy film Undead. The movie screened at 17 film festivals and won the prestigious Fipresci Award. It was sold to 41 countries and was released in The US and Canada by Lions Gate entertainment. The same entertainment company also backed the brothers’ second production.
Then, their second feature film Daybreakers starred Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Isabel Lucas and many more. It was released in January 2010. Later, they filmed their third feature film that was a sci-fi action thriller Predestination.
The cast of the movie is Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook, and Noah Taylor. The movie received positive reviews from media like Variety, The Guardian and IGN Movies.
