Early Life of Nancy Motes

Nancy Motes was the youngest daughter of late American actress and acting coach, Betty Lou Bredemus. Nancy had three older-half-siblings from her mother’s previous marriage with Walter Grady Roberts. Her older half-siblings are all well-established actors; Julia Roberts, Eric Roberts, Lisa Roberts.

Nancy had a troubled childhood as her father, Michael Motes was often unemployed and used to abuse her mother. Nancy’s half-sister, Julia also bullied her often regarding her weight. Once, Nancy had stated that she wanted to make her career in acting, however, she got no help from her superstar siblings.

Cause of Death

Sadly, Julia took her own life after overdosing on prescribed and unprescribed medication on February 9, 2014. She was suffering from depression and obesity and used to spent a long time in dark places. Moreover, she was only a few months away from getting married to her fiancé, John Dilbeck. The paramedics found Nancy in the bathtub after she had swallowed a fistful of medicines that had already led her to death.

Last Words

Nancy left her final words via a note; suicide note. In her suicide note, she blamed her parents and so-called siblings behind the cause of her death. She stated that she was abused by her sister, Julia Roberts for her weight. Julia made Nancy feel embarrassed for over two decades. That drove her to take her life at the age of 37. Nancy pointed to her family and siblings to be the cause of her depression. She wrote:

My mother & so-called ‘siblings’ get nothing except the memory that they are the ones that drove me into the deepest depression I’ve ever been in.

Besides, she also didn’t want her family to have any of her possessions. Nancy only wanted them to remember that “they were the ones that drove her to that.”

Personal Life

Despite the fact she was suffering from obesity and depression, she had a loving and caring fiancé, John Dilbeck.  In her final words, she called him her true love and best friend. Her suicide notes were first found by The Mail.

She also made it clear that all of her possessions must go down to John including their dog, Lucy. Lucy passed away after surviving for 17 years. Before her death in February 2013, the couple were planning to get married in May of the same year.

Before her death, Nancy Motes worked as a Production Assistant in the TV series, Glee.
