As a teenager, in the backyard of his family, Paul started his early weight training on his own to increase his size and strength so that he could play on the football team at Toccoa High School, where he won a position as a first-team blocking back. Anderson later attended a football scholarship at Furman University for a year before moving with his parents to Elizabethton, Tennessee.
