McCay attended Saint Walburga’s Convent School. Later, she graduated from Barnard College in June 1949. After her father’s sudden demise, she and her mother ran their construction company for a time. Furthermore, she joined impresario Margo Jones’ Texas-based theatre company, where she portrayed numerous roles.

On 7th October 2018, McCay died from natural causes at her home in the Greater Los Angeles area. She was buried in Los Angeles, California area by her family. At the age of 90, she left the world, leaving all her problems.
