There are superstars who rule the movie industry for a couple of years and fade away. But this movie star is different among all the actors since he ruled the industry for over three decades. He was non-other than Robert Taylor, widely famous as ‘The man with a perfect profile’.

Robert Taylor was one of the most popular movies and television actor during the 1930s to 1960s. Some of his renowned movies are  A Yank at Oxford, Waterloo Bridge, Bataan and many more.

Robert Taylor Personal Life

Robert married American Television actress, Barbara Stanwyck after dating for three years on May 14, 1939, in San Diego, California. However, following complications in the marriage, the couple decided to part their ways after 12 years of marriage. Apparently,  Stanwyck divorced Taylor because Robert requested her to end the marriage. Since they had no children from the marriage, it became easy for the couple to take the decision to separate.

However, after a year of divorce, Robert met German Actress, Ursula Theiss in 1952 and tied knot with the actress in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on May 23, 1954.  Robert and Ursula gave birth to two children son Terrance Taylor and daughter Tessa Taylor. Besides, Ursula was previously married to German film producer George Otto Theiss and shared two children Manuel and Michael. Sadly Michael Theiss died in West Los Angeles motel room following a drug overdose.

Unfortunately, Robert could not be with his family for long since he got diagnosed with Lung cancer in 1968. At that time, his daughter was 8 years and his son was 12 years old. He died at the age of 57 on June 8, 1969, in saint Monica California. His body was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale.

Professional Career

Robert was interested in music and played cello during his school days. During his college days at Pomona, Robert joined the theater group where he was spotted by MGM talent scout. He was a handsome guy who attracted the eyes of a scout and made him sign a contract for seven years. Soon after, he made his movie debut with, Handy Andy alongside Motion picture actor Will Rogers.

Luckily Taylor accidentally got the lead role after MGM the underproduction short movie actor fell ill. After that, there was no stopping Robert since he started to get an offer from different production houses. He appeared as a lead in 1935 blockbuster Magnificient Obsession followed by Camille, Broadway of 1936 and 1938, A yank at Oxford, Waterloo Bridge. 

Soon after that, Robert has given Nickname ‘‘The man with the Perfect Profile‘ after which he started doing darker roles. Some of his dark movies are Billy the Kid, Johny Eager, Bataan, Undercurrent, High Wall, Constipirator, Quo Vadis.

Later in his 50’s, Taylor starred in western movies which were his preferred Genre. He starred in Movies like Many Rivers to Cross, The Law, and The Law and Jake Wade, The detectives, A house is not a home. Later, he co-starred with his ex-wife Barbara Stanwyck in The Night Walker. His last work was as Narrator a tv series before dying in 1969. However, he was never into comedy movies like the 60’s actor Paul Lynde.

Anti-Communist-Robert

Robert Taylor was an anti-communist from the heart as he always discarded communism in his surroundings. Along with other actors, he formed a group which was an American alliance comprised of high profile politically conservative group of  Hollywood film industry. Robert accused some of his colleagues of spreading communism belief inside the industry.

Following the controversy, Taylor’s movies banned in communist countries like Hungry and Czechoslovakia. In addition to that, some communists even called to boycott his films France film festival.

Robert died at the age of 57

Robert died at the age of 57 on June 8, 1969, with Lung Cancer. Taylor had gone surgery to remove a portion after discovering valley fever in October 1968. During the surgery, doctors discovered that he had lung cancer. Taylor was a chain smoker all his life. As per the various tabloids he smoked three packs of cigarettes a day. However, he had left smoking before going under surgery.  Although the doctor removed transmitted parts of his lungs he had no chance of recovering from Lung cancer.

Moreover, Taylor was hospitalized seven times due to infections and complications related to the disease. Sadly, he died of lung cancer on June 8, 1969, at Saint John’s Health Center in California. His death became a sensation to his colleague and his fans. Later after his death, a memorial was built at the Hollywood Hall of fame at 1500 Vine Street alongside 80’s actress Judy Grable.
