Five-time Emmy winning broadcast journalist and anchor, Roger Mudd is famous as the primary anchor for more than ten years in The History Channel. He started his career as a reporter for the Richmond Times-Dispatch and continued his career with the various American Channels which include NBC News, WTOP News, PBS, CBS News. 

Roger Mudd Bio

Roger Mudd was born Roger Harrison Mudd on 9 February 1928, in Washington D.C., the United States to John Kostka Dominic Mudd and Irma Iris Harrison. His father worked as a map maker for the United States Geological Survey and his mother was a lieutenant for the U.S.

He received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University in Virginia in 1950 and gained M.A. degree from the University of North Carolina in 1953. He also enrolled at the Univesity of Richmond School of Law in 1954, but later dropped out.

Mudd started his journalism career in Richmond, Virginia as a reporter for the company The Richmond News Leader and also for radio station WRNL. In The Richmond News Leader, he served at the rewrite desk and in WRNL radio Mudd did the daily noon newscast. In late 1950s Mudd moved to Washington, D.C., so as to become a reporter in WTOP News. He hosted his first newcast during the fall of 1956.

In September 1957, Mudd conducted his first live TV studio interview. And in 1961 Mudd joined CBS News where he was a Congressional correspondent. Moreover, he was also the anchor of the Saturday edition of CBS Evening News. In 1980 Mudd left the CBS News and to join NBC News where he co-anchored on two NBC news magazines with Connie Chung before moving on as a journalist to the McNeill-Lehrer’s Newshour on PBS in 1987.

After his brief work in PBS, Mudd also worked in The History Channel in the late 1990s before retiring in 2004.

Further, his elder son Daniel Mudd was the former CEO of Fortess Investmet Group LLC and the Fannie Mae. Similarly, Jonathon Mudd is the singer and songwriter whereas Maria Mudd and Matthew Mudd is the author.
