He moved to New York to attend film school at New York University, but he dropped out after a year. Later, he decided to pursue his career as a comedian in the field of entertainment.

Later, he got his breakthrough when he and Chappelle came to co-create the eponymous sketch comedy, Chappelle’s Show in January of 2003 until 2004.

Brenan directed and wrote a 2006 TV movie, Totally Awesome. He hosted the American live television program, Attack of the Show! in 2012. His movies credits are The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009), Get Him to the Greek (2010), etc. Currently, he is hosting the TV show, The Approval Matrix since 2014.
