Pablo Escobar’s Early Life and Education

Pablo Escobar was born on 1st of December 1949, in Rionegro, in the Antioquia Department of Colombia as Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria. He was the third child, among seven of the children of father Abel de Jesús Dari Escobar (a farmer) and a mother- Hermilda Gaviria (an elementary school teacher). He grew up in the nearby city of Medellín.

Regarding his education, Escobar shortly attended the University Autónoma Latinoamericana of Medellín. Due to his strong desire to become a millionaire, Escobar started his criminal activities in his teenage by stealing gravestones and selling them to smugglers.

Pablo Escobar’s Career

In the 1970s Pablo entered the drug trade and by 1975, he developed his cocaine operation. After he extended his business, Pablo collaborated with Carlos Lehder and developed Norman’s Cay in the Bahamas, which was the main route of smuggling for the Medellin Cartel between the year 1978 to 1982.

When Pablo was at the peak of his criminal career, he used to smuggle about the 11 tons of cocaine per flight to the U.S. and has employed two remote-controlled submarines to smuggle cocaine. As he built the powerful empire, the other smugglers gave away 20% to 35% of their profit to him for smooth shipment.

In the year 1989, Pablo Escobar was accused of a getting Colombian presidential candidate, Luis Carlos Galan, assassinated. After the assassination, Pablo was negotiated to surrender on condition of a lesser sentence and he surrendered the Colombian government in 1991.

In the year 1976, Pablo Escobar married Maria Victoria and had two children, Juan Sebastián Marroquín Santos and Manuela, with her. Though he dated other women in his life, Pablo used to take good care of his family.

On 2nd December 1993, Pablo was found by Colombian law enforcement in a middle-class neighborhood in Medellin and was shot and killed.
