Dervla Kirwan was born on October 24, 1971, in Churchtown, Dublin, Ireland. She was born to her parents Peter Kirwan, her father and Maureen O’Driscoll, her mother. Dervla comes from a humble beginning as her mother is a teacher and her father is an insurance broker.

Kirwan grew up in Ireland with her two siblings Blanaid and Paula, and she is the youngest of them. Dervla was born under Scorpio sun sign and is currently 47-year-old. Kirwan went to Loreto Beaufort, a Catholic school for her studies and later joined Sandymount High School. Her career as an actress started to progress from there.

Kirwan started her career with the TV series Troubles in 1988 and after that, she appeared in The Lilac Bus. Dervla featured alongside Stephanie Beacham and it was an adaptation from the novel by Maeve Binchy. Kirwan played in the theatre from an early age of 16.

Dervla won credits for her performance in A Handful of Stars and in 1991, later Kirwan debuted in BBC production A Time to Dance. Some of the other theatres show she worked in are Water Music, Hush, An Absolute Turkey.

Her notable role came in Goodnight Sweetheart where she featured alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst. In addition, Dervla won national award for her role in Ballykissangel in 1996 and also Irish poet award in 1997 for the best entertainer. Kirwan starred alongside Christopher Eccleston in With or Without You, film directed by Michael Winterbottom.

Over the years Dervla worked in numerous films and starred alongside several actors. Some of them are The Greatest store in the world, Hearts & Bones, Injustice, School of Seduction. Currently, in 2019 Kirwan appeared in a guest role in BBC series Silent Witness and will also play in Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train.
